![]() We all love the holiday season, but it is easy to lose balance this time of year. The days are shorter, so when we get home from work we only have a few hours to get stuff done before the light is gone and, I don't know about you, but once the light is gone I tend to feel like I can't get anything done! Once December hits, I want to spend time with friends and families and do all the fun things the season has to offer. I definitely do not want to do all of the work I have building up once the holiday season hits!! Of course, once the holiday music starts to play on the radio stations, we don't get a pass on getting out work done though. So how do we continue to motivate ourselves to get our obligations met when all we want to do is have fun? One thing we can do is start each day by looking at our list of tasks and breaking it down into bite-sized pieces. If the tasks on our to do list are too big, we are much more likely to procrastinate and put it off until later but if we have small little tasks to get done, we are more likely to get them done bit by bit until they are eventually completed. Another great idea is to surround our obligations with tasks we want to do. Sometimes I will take a break from my fun tasks to do my obligatory ones. By sandwiching my obligations with fun, I am never sitting around on a Saturday just doing my grading or lesson planning. I am doing my annoying tasks in bite sized chunks between the fun things that I want to do making my obligations much more palatable. Do you have any more ideas for ways to make doing your obligatory work easier during this holiday season? Add them to the comment section!
