Loomie Live for Zoom Burnout
Mindfulness and SEL with Caitlin Krause and MindWiseVR
Immersive education is ideal to support the district goal of mindfulness. Caitilin Krause and her company Mindful by Design focus on bringing mindfulness training and mediation to VR. Although social VR is not appropriate for students younger than 13, this can be done using several other resources including Spatial, Rumii, and Mozilla Hubs which can be used to create private rooms for the district. All of those programs can be used in 2D mode as well as in VR with a headset but require internet connection (as all of these resources do). Spatial and Rumii need specific apps and Mozilla Hubs runs in a browser.
AltSpaceVR and EvolVR
AltspaceVR is considered a social VR program. This is a benefit for the older students where we can connect students with others around the globe (I'm working on that now with someone in Denmark) and to help teach digital citizenship as well as soft skills to help students as they prepare to leave the shelter of K12 education. However, there is an appropriate minimum age of 13 so it cannot be used by the primary students without a parent/guardian. As I mentioned above, there are other resources where private rooms can be created. AltspaceVR and Engage can both be used in 2D mode or VR but require a laptop/desktop. AltspaceVR is only on Windows at the moment but will likely be on Macbooks soon.
